Physicochemical Properties: Appearance Black-brown crystals (crystalline), vapor appears purple. Has a special irritating odor.
Solubility Slightly soluble in water, solubility increases with temperature; difficult to dissolve in sulfuric acid; easily soluble in organic solvents; iodine is also easily soluble in chlorides and bromides; more easily soluble in iodide solutions; can dissolve sulfur, selenium, ammonium and alkali metal iodides, aluminum, tin, titanium, and other metal iodides.

Uses: Mainly used in the production of iodides, for manufacturing pesticides, disinfectants, feed additives, dyes, test papers, pharmaceuticals, etc. Used to prepare equivalent solvents, determine iodine value, calibrate the concentration of sodium thiosulfate solution. The solution can be used as a disinfectant, and in photoplatemaking for iodine agents and thinning solution preparation.
